School District Overview:
Hamilton Southeastern Schools, the fastest growing school corporation in Indiana, served 17,140 students in Fishers, Indiana during the 2008-2009 school year. The district consists of 12 elementary schools that provide education to students in kindergarten through the fourth grade; three intermediate schools for students in the fifth and sixth grades; three junior high schools for students in the seventh and eighth grades; and two high schools for students in the ninth through twelfth grades.
ISTEP scores for Hamilton Southeastern Schools are consistently higher than the state average, as is student performance on college entrance and other standardized tests. Striving for and demanding academic excellence from its students, the district also uses a weighted grading scale for students in the second through twelfth grades. High school students are also awarded based on course difficulty, with AP courses holding the most weight, then Honors courses, and then standard courses. Kindergarteners can earn grades of Excellent, Satisfactory, Progressing, and Needs Improvement. And first-graders can earn grades of Secured, Progressing with Help, and Needs Improvement.
