Indianapolis reclaimed the top spot as the most affordable major housing market in the United States. Per the National Association of Home Builders / Wells Fargo Housing Opportunity Index, Indianapolis reclaimed the top spot it held for five years before Syracuse earned it last quarter.
"In Indianapolis, 93.3 percent of all homes sold were affordable to households earning the area's median family income of $68,700."
NAHB Chairman Bob Jones, a home builder from Michigan cited interest rates and low housing prices as reasons for housing affordability. Indianapolis Real Estate Market Update

In February of this year, Forbes reporter Francesca Levy noted that Indianapolis had one of the best housing markets in the country joining Minneapolis and St. Louis for some of the top housing markets in the Midwest. Experts cited low foreclosure rates and rising property prices as determining factors, but they also found that Indianapolis’ biggest asset was its affordability. Despite the fact that the recession lowered home prices, decent mortgage rates were still making it possible for many Indianapolis families to purchase homes.
MIBOR’s September Housing Data Report also offered some encouraging news regarding the housing market in Indianapolis. The report showed that home sale prices were strong. This was supported by rising numbers for average…

Irvington is a historic community on the eastside of Indy that’s finally coming into its own. If you haven’t seen Irvington in a while, as they say – you haven’t seen Irvington. It isn’t just the new Starbucks, antique stores, or even the new puppy bakery – it’s as if the area’s got a whole new attitude.
New businesses, increased community activism, $1 million in urban developments funds, the Irvington Development Organization, and beautiful parks and incredible gardens have brought Irvington to life – reminders of its earliest days as the first streetcar suburb of Indy in the 1870s. Drive through tree-lined streets and gaze at some architecturally grand houses, some of which are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. …
Indianapolis Among Most Improved Housing Markets
Thursday, July 29th, 2010 at 8:31am. 348 Views, 0 Comments.
In an article recently published by Bloomberg Businessweek, the Indianapolis-Carmel metro area ranked number 18 among the most improved housing markets in the country. For the area, the first quarter price index was up 2.1%, which is still a long way away from the 7.8% increase in the Denver-Aurora-Broomfield metro area which ranked number 1, but is still a huge step in the right direction.
The Metropolitan Indianapolis Board of Realtors (MIBOR) reported that, “after sales and median prices in central Indiana increased in the first quarter, the second quarter also got off to a strong start.” If the supply of homes stays low as it currently is, it will help home prices remain stead or increase throughout 2010, despite the face that demand will likely…
