Indianapolis reclaimed the top spot as the most affordable major housing market in the United States. Per the National Association of Home Builders / Wells Fargo Housing Opportunity Index, Indianapolis reclaimed the top spot it held for five years before Syracuse earned it last quarter.
"In Indianapolis, 93.3 percent of all homes sold were affordable to households earning the area's median family income of $68,700."
NAHB Chairman Bob Jones, a home builder from Michigan cited interest rates and low housing prices as reasons for housing affordability. A lot has changed in the last year to the top builders in metro Indianapolis. You won't find CP Morgan or Davis Homes on this list and if you add Centex and Pulte permits together (since they merged in 2009), they would be the #2 builder. Additionally, this year, we will see the addition of Ryan Homes to the top 10 list. Below is a list of the top producing home builders in Indianapolis,

Hamilton County Building Permits up 111% in January

Last week, we received some great news from the Builders Association of Indianapolis about building permits in Hamilton County. Permits were up 111% in January 2010 compared to 2009. In 2009, builders pulled 53 permits compared to 112 this year.
One of the biggest city gainers was Carmel with a 280% gain from 10 in 2009 to 38 this year. The other big gainer was Noblesville that went from 13 permits to 30 for a 130% gain. Fishers builder permits grew modest 18%.
We have spoken with a few of our builder contacts that say there is still a few weeks left to get a home started so you can take advantage of the home buyer tax credit and STILL have it close by the end of June.
