Carmel Clay Schools served 15,319 students during the 2009-2009 school year. The district consists of 11 elementary schools that provide education to students in kindergarten through the fifth grade; three middle schools for students in the sixth through eighth grades; and one high school for students in the ninth through twelfth grades. ISTEP scores for Carmel Clay Schools are consistently higher than the state average.
Carmel Clay Schools has received an Exemplary rating from the State of Indiana, and is one of few Indiana school systems to have earned district accreditation via the international organization AdvancED. And with a school board focused on public outreach and involvement in the arts, Carmel and the Carmel Clay Schools have been named one of the Best Communities for Music Education in the country.
